Electrical Project Engineer – High-Profile NASA Project

Job Opportunity

Performs functions related to the technical development of projects for custom overhead bridge cranes.

The electrical project engineer’s responsibilities include reviewing all engineering design plans, performing complex calculations, designing and constructing electrical systems and their components, liaising with other engineers, and maintaining relationships with clients, vendors, and project stakeholders.

For the first year of employment, this role will support a high-profile NASA contract involving a 325-ton overhead crane used to lift Artemis rockets and shuttles—offering a unique opportunity to contribute to critical infrastructure supporting the U.S. space program.

A PE (Professional Engineer) license is preferred. Some travel is required. Knowledge or experience applying programmable logic controllers (PLCs) is a plus. Candidate must not be afraid of heights.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Reviews project technical specifications and develops all pertinent documentation required for the project development and equipment design.
  • Assists in the definition of technical solutions and estimates used in the contract proposal development.
  • Manages and monitors all assigned electrical projects, executes customer submittals including pertinent drawings and documentation.
  • Leads the design and execution effort as the Subject-Matter Expert interfacing with customers, vendors and other project contributors.
  • Facilitates and conducts the factory acceptance tests with or without customer participation.
  • Controls, monitors and organizes technical documentation to meet the Quality Program requirements.
  • Participates in the vendor and project contractors’ review and approval activities which include site visits, audits and Quality Assurance programs.
  • Coordinates suppliers’ activities to assure that materials provided meet project requirements.
  • Maintains budget awareness when establishing design solutions and involves project managers to mitigate cost variance.
  • Develops and provides periodic updates of the project engineering schedule as an integral part of the overall project schedule.
  • Uses CAD software to review and update electrical drawings.
  • Reviews and approves project construction and engineering plans.
  • Troubleshoots crane controls and devices, evaluates warranty claims and leads the effort of equipment procurement under the warranty policy.
  • Supports the field services team during the equipment install, startup and testing.
  • Collaborates with other project teams for exchange of technical expertise.
  • Keeps abreast with the latest developments in electrical engineering.
  • Monitors the observation of the health and safety codes during project execution.
  • Supports or applies knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in system design and troubleshooting.
  • Participates in site visits or field assignments, including work at heights. Must not be afraid of heights.
  • Travels to job sites, customer locations, or vendor facilities as required.

Education, Skills and Knowledge

  • B.S.E.E 4-year technical degree required.
  • Working in collaboration with project management experience is required.
  • CAD software and MS Office working experience required.
  • Good oral and written communication skills required.
  • Comfortable to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment with fast-paced and short-term deadlines.
  • Preferable knowledge of Overhead Traveling Bridge Cranes.
  • Knowledge or experience with PLCs is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel is required.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights when needed.
